Student Honor Code Administration (October, 2019- present) Staff
Academic integrity is the cornerstone of the learning environment at the University of Florida. The Honor Code protects academic integrity by holding all students to the same standards and responsibilities in completing their coursework at the University.
The Student Honor Code Administration is an executive directorship under the office of the Student Body President. The Administration works closely with the Dean of Students office to protect the Honor Code and academic integrity at the University of Florida. Through educational programming and free proctoring services, the Student Honor Code Administration ensures all students uphold their pledge to the Honor Code.
As part of staff, I provide proctoring services, assist in recruiting, and help educate professors and other students through outreach events and on-demand services.
Gators for Underrepresented Voters (September, 2019- May, 2020) Assistant Director of Advocacy
Gators for Underrepresented Voters is a student-run organization dedicated to increasing voter efficacy amongst college students, especially for groups underrepresented in politics. My role as Assistant Director of Advocacy includes collaborating with other executive board members to plan and implement monthly directives focused on promoting the club and promoting political involvement.
Paloozoo.com Social Media Internship (2016-2017)
Paloozoo.com is a social media startup that I was involved with and interned with from 2016-2017. I consulted on aspects of design and marketing from the millennial/Generation Z perspective and served as part of a pilot group early in the design process.
In addition to representing my generation's views throughout the design stage, I provided further feedback on numerous ideas and presented suggestions regarding design and marketing, some of which were adopted into the final website.
This was a very educational experience as I got to see the process of starting a company, especially a digital one, and was able to input ideas and suggestions based on my own experience. Throughout my internship, I attained valuable knowledge about marketing, graphic design, and entrepreneurship.
Duke Talent Identification Program (TiP) Summer Studies (2015-2017)
After receiving national recognition for my SAT scores, I took three intensive and enriching courses over three summers at Duke University East Campus.
My first year I took Criminal Trial Advocacy. This course was modeled after law school curriculum. We delved into black-letter law and litigation techniques used by trial lawyers through a series of workshop activities and the analysis of criminal procedure cases. We applied legal principles through a series of structured oral arguments and mock trials. We explored the nuances of arrest, indictment, and pretrial discovery from the perspective of both the prosecution and the defense and worked through hypothetical problems in groups, engaged in Socratic-style dialogues, and participated in class-wide discussions. We Wrote legal briefs, applied previous court decisions to current controversies, and developed and presented a final case.
In my second year, I took Philosophy of Time. In this course, we tackled complex philosophical questions like what is time? How have different cultures throughout history understood and represented it? Does it unfold in a straight line, or is it best represented by a circle of eternal recurrence? We Examined how a wide range of thinkers have dealt with the issue of time and temporality. We discussed the phenomenology of Martin Heidegger and the space-time theory of Albert Einstein alongside Native American mythology, Romantic poetry, Buddhist philosophy, and Christian theology. We analyzed how television and movies create new visions of the past when depicting historical periods. We considered the theories of dimensions of time to tackle a proposition that has obsessed modern culture: time travel.
In my third and final year, before aging out of the program, I took History of the Future. This class explored the methods societies use to predict the future and the cultural assumptions behind futurism. We learned about “failed” predictions such as flying cars and lunar colonies, explore the factors that might have prevented these predictions from coming true, and examine current predictions about the future through social, political, and scientific lenses.
