Conclusion of 2019 Manatee County Fair

Writer's picture: Emma ReinischEmma Reinisch

Today marks the end of my final Manatee County Fair. Over the past two weeks I exhibited 4 animals in 7 shows. My dairy heifer won a red ribbon, my dairy goat won two blue ribbons, and both of my beef heifers won white ribbons. This was a long but very successful fair. I was at the fair grounds for an average of 9 hours a day taking care of my animals, grooming them, and preparing both of us for show.

This week was my beef heifer shows, which are my personal favorite. My beef heifer, Abbey, weighed in at 868 lbs (an almost 400 lbs increase from the fair last year) and showed in the Brahman Influence class, where she placed 4th. She did excellent in her show which was a great pay off for the hours spent working with her.

I also showed a chapter beef heifer, named Luci. This was Luci's first show and she was very difficult to break and we weren't sure if she would make it to fair until right before hand. Thus, I was pleased she successfully made it through the show ring. She didn't place as well but we are working on having her gain weight to prepare for State Fair in two weeks.
