Last night my Advanced Open Water and Advanced Rescue Diver class went through the first of our first aid rotations. My group learned about providing oxygen, including: how to assess an emergency situation (SAFE), how to assemble and disassemble oxygen tanks and kits, the various types of oxygen delivery methods and masks, the procedure for offering someone aid and in which situations you can provide aid, and how to respond if someone is improving or crashing. We practiced scenarios with each type of mask for strong breathing victims, weakly breathing victims, and non-breathing victims.
We will continue to practice these skills in class and in the water during our pool sessions, and will be tested on these concepts through our online course and hands-on rescue weekend.
