The 2019 Florida FFA Veterinary Science Career Development Event (CDE) preliminary exam will be taking place in the end of February, 2019, and the state competition will occur in April, 2019. The preliminary exam is a 50 question exam about general veterinary knowledge, and the top 30 (out of what is typically 100-120 teams) teams will move on to the state competition.

At states, competitors must identify breeds (this year we must know horse, goat, sheep, small mammals, poultry, reptiles, bird, and cat breeds), parasites, tools, complete a math exam, general knowledge exam, and preform restraint and clinical practicums.

Our 2019 CDE team, composed of myself and three other FFA members from my school, has begun practicing in preparation for the preliminary exam. We are looking forward to a positive preliminary competition as we've qualified for states the past three years, and are hoping to place top 4 in the state (to improve from our 5th place ranking in 2018).

This year, I am the only member who has previously competed in the CDE. Thus I am coaching the other members and serve as team leader. I created all of our studying materials, schedule our practices, lead practices, and ensure that all team members are making consistent progress towards learning the material.
